Course Overview

This course will introduce you to using your voice as a performer. Through practical work you will explore fundamental voice techniques including breath support and control and delve into key areas such as articulation, rhythm and resonance, to enrich vocal performance. You will build confidence and develop effective techniques to help conquer nerves.

Throughout the course you will link your developing skills to practice on texts, enabling you to free your voice and find a true connection to the words you speak. Whether you are looking to pursue an acting career, present for the business sector or are looking to enhance your public speaking skills, this course will appeal to anyone who wants to embark on vocal development and have a solid base from which to specialise.

At the end of the course you will be expected to perform a poem and a piece (acting monologue/public speech) to apply your learning in context.

On completing this course, you might like to consider applying to Central’s Voice Studies, MA/MFA or Acting – Text 2.

Please note: Due to the nature of voice work, the course contains a certain amount of floor work (especially in the first few weeks). We recommend bringing a yoga mat or towel to the sessions for your comfort.
