Centre for Excellence in Training for Theatre
In 2005, the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) created 72 National Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and Central was designated as the Centre for Excellence in Training for Theatre (CETT).
Since its inception CETT has:
- staged five annual international conferences – How to Act, Theatre Materials, Theatre Noise, Theatre Applications and Authoring Theatre
- produced four annual international Student Puppet Festivals
- established Graduate Residency Schemes for new companies with Puppet Centre Trust and Camden People’s Theatre
- worked in partnership with leading arts organisations and companies such as the V&A, Prague Quadrennial, Centre Pomidou, Arts Admin, Independent Street Arts Network, Society of British Theatre Designers, Half Moon Young People’s Theatre and the Grotowski Institute
- developed a prototype of a sustainable, touring theatre building with the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London
- produced innovative staff and student work in London, New York and Paris and has been invited to take part in festivals nationally and internationally, including the Edinburgh Fringe
- co-produced work with Complicite associates, Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester Metropolitan University
- organised lectures and masterclasses with leading international artists like ORLAN and Anne Bogart
- supported educational and professional projects and symposia on dyslexia, disability, body image and widening participation in theatre training
- organised a wide range of events and symposia on dramatherapy, voice studies, verbatim theatre and postdramatic theatre
Central will continue to curate conferences and events in the future, as well as sustaining and developing partnerships.
