Kiki (Vasiliki) Selioni
Abstract
The focus of the research is an investigation into the links between Laban and Aristotle with the view to propose a new approach to movement training for the actor. The research will re-examine their concepts in order to establish similarities between their understanding of human praxis (in theatre).
I will propose how Laban develops the conceptual framework of Aristotle, providing not only a theoretical approach, but also a practical one, establishing the art of movement as science. The critical discussion will serve as a framework from which to propose a new way of applying Laban’s movement concepts to the movement training for actors.
The research will develop and present a syllabus of practical classes addressing actors’ movement training. The ultimate goal is to contribute an approach that can inform the way Laban’s concepts are taught and provide suggestions for the structuring of technical movement classes for actors.
