Practices and Processes

The Practices and Processes Seminar Series offers a space for work in progress and development, a forum for testing methodologies and articulating interim findings related to research in all areas of contemporary practices of theatre-making and performance, as well as its cultural histories and lineages.

Our seminars regularly feature presentations from performance thinkers from around the world, including our annual visiting fellows: Christopher Balme (LMU) on the impressario Maurice Bandmann, Tracy Davis (Northwestern) on mermaid shows, Nike Jonah on thinking creatively about diversity, David Román (USC) on Taylor Mac’s 24-hour musical performance and revolution, Kareem Khubchandani (Tufts) on lessons in drag. Seminars in 2020/21 have included Liyang Xia (University of Oslo) on Ibsen in China, Pascale Aebischer (University of Exeter) on Viral Shakespeare - binge watching Hamlet in lockdown, Aoife Monks (QMUL) on virtuosity, and Karen Fricker (Brock) on Robert Lepage.
