Stills from a movie screen

In November 1937 BBC Television broadcast six scenes from an Embassy Theatre production of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline. In April 2019 Cymbeline was staged by Central’s MA Acting in the new Courtyard Theatre.

For a unique research project Ben Naylor (MA Acting Classical Course Leader) and producer John Wyver reconstructed the lost 1937 broadcast from the surviving camera script, and comparatively filmed the same scenes from the 2019 production.

Tonight they introduce a premiere screening of the two versions in Central’s Embassy Theatre.

Supported by The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama & Illuminations Media.
