English Language Requirements
The entry requirements for study at Central ask that applicants, for whom English is not their first language, are able to demonstrate competence in the English language.
Due to the nature of studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level, an excellent command of spoken and written English is essential. At the discretion of the Admissions Tutor, if you have undertaken a full degree programme in an English speaking country, e.g. the UK, the USA or Australia, this requirement will normally be waived provided that the degree was taken no more than five years before the start of your proposed study at Central.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
For admission onto Central's undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, applicants whose first lanaguage is not English are required to have an IELTS score of 7.0 or equivalent. We prefer certification from IELTS, but other tests are also accepted, as below. IELTS is administered through British Council offices in many countries. For information about your local test centre contact the British Council in your own country. Information is available on the take IELTS website from the British Council or through their UK helpline on +44 (0)161 957 7755.
We also accept certification from a range of other language test organisations (test results must have been obtained within the last three years):
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Internet Based Test overall score of at least 80, with a writing score of at least 20 and no other section lower than 15
