Sue – Woman in her early 50s

Caroline – Woman in her mid 30s

Jane – Sue’s daughter, 18 years old, committed suicide

Tome – Neighbour, 32 years old

In a dark room with the curtains drawn, no light comes in… It’s in the morning but it feels like a late afternoon within in the room.

The room is covered with pictures of a girl.

Covered with the pictures such that no visible gap can be seen.

Even the door is covered with pictures so no one can enter or leave the room.

No one is able to enter or leave.

Inside the room there is a woman, a woman in her early 50s. She is sleeping, unmoving like a corpse.

Sue  AHHHHHHHHHHHH (She shrieks as if awoken from a nightmare)

She pants to calm herself down.

As she wakes… she turns to her side where a picture of a girl can be seen. She kisses the picture.

She smiles at the picture as if nothing had happened.

Sue  Good morning~ Jane

She then heads to the toilet and as she returned

She turned on the radio. The voice of a girl in her teens can be heard.

She stretches her limbs and then heads towards a pile of pictures on the floor. She starts to place the pictures on the wall, covering any spaces that can be seen.

Sue How did you sleep Jane? I had such a terrible nightmare last night… I dreamt of when I was a younger,

when I was really young, an infant really. When I was still within my mother’s womb… I… began to eat my umbilical cord

I ate it all… As if I was rejecting this world… and then this

lead to my mother’s death… It was so strange… so strange… so very… strange.

Sue continues to place pictures all over the walls.

Sue   The dream was so surreal… I was scared… scared of that setting, and myself. But, I had to do it

there was nothing else that could be done. I had to kill her, so that I could reject

this rotten world. It had to be done… It was the only…

Music can be heard from the radio.

Sue begins to sing along…

Sue  Jane! Do you remember? This song, this song, it’s the song that you sang so well.

Whenever I hear this song, my heart feels so relaxed. Please sing louder~

       Louder, please louder! (She sings)

She sings along with the radio, dancing as if it were her last day on earth.

Intoxicated by the music

Intoxicated by the dance

Sue Sing with me, sing! (She sings)

She stops, suddenly, as if she saw something or felt something that sent shivers all the way down her spine. As if her stomach was turned inside out. She had a look of immense fear in her eyes.

Sue What time is it…?

She looks at the clock.

Sue     no,,,11:30… The demon will be here soon… Her voice…

Where’s my phone? My phone? I need to find it, where is it, WHERE IS IT?!

Jane! Have you seen it? WHERE IS IT?!

The phone cannot be seen in the sty that is there room… Suddenly, somewhere within the room her phone can be heard vibrating.

Sue  I need to find my phone!!! Only then can I save you from that demon. I need to protect you!!!

Help me find it, where is it for fucks sake?! Find it now, now!

Finally, she finds it and just as soon as she finds it she takes the battery out.

Sue  That woman, the foul stench of that woman, that vile disgusting woman. She’s trying to separate us you know?

We can’t let that happen. Jane, my Jane I will protect you.

The song continues to play…

Sue returns to placing photos all over the wall. Not one picture but all of them… Again and again she places them on her wall…

Sue   Jane, what should I wear? This? How about this? Or this? No, maybe this?

What would you say if I wore this to meet you?

No, no, what am I saying you’re right here… Sorry… That’s why you should sing louder!

So that I know that I am alive… Sing for me… Like that just like that…

Suddenly the sound of someone passing by the window can be heard…

Sue rushes to turn off the radio… and places her body on the floor as if they were one entity.

Sue  (Whispering) Act as if nothing has happened… As if nothing will happen. Be quiet ------- be still…

The demons are near… We mustn’t be heard, it will be the end of us…

We need to protect ourselves from that demon…

        Ssssssh!!!! Shut up… We can’t be heard…

Knocking can be heard.

Tom  Turn down the bloody music!!! This isn’t the first time, for fuck sake…

Sue  (carefully, Sue heads towards the door, her voice is calm as if a different person)

I’m sorry Tom; I’ll turn it down… Sorry.

Tom  This is your final warning. I’ll call the police next time. Jesus…

The footsteps become quieter and quieter… Sue waits, her eyes darting from side to side

Sue  (she sighs with relief) It’s over… She won’t be back today

Don’t be scared, it’s over now… So don’t be too worried.

Jane don’t be scared. I can’t do anything when you’re scared.

Sue returns to placing the pictures on the wall. As if her sole purpose in life was to complete this, as if this was her last chance.

She had placed the pictures so tightly such that no air could pass through. The music continues to be heard in the background. It is almost 2PM.

Sue  We must finish everything before that demon of a woman comes. If not our plans will go to shit.

We cannot fail. We must not fail… The consequences… No, don’t worry… I will protect you, okay?

(Sue heads towards the kitchen)

Now for my final preparations… I cannot fail this time… Not today…

Sue begins to withdraw pills from the medicine cabinet.

She places then on the table, one by one, counting each.

1, 2, 3, …………, 19

Sue   This should be enough… Don’t you thing? Yes? No?

This should be enough for me to enjoy my rum, right? Don’t you think?

        To our happiness, cheers.

         No, to our beautiful future

        We will be together, forever…

Come let’s take a picture, so that we will remember this day forever.

Let us immortalize ourselves with this picture.

Sue fetches her Polaroid camera and takes a picture of herself. She pauses for a moment, then returns to tidy the room.

Sue  It’s done, everything is ready…

The pills and rum are placed neatly on the table. Sue gracefully heads towards the table and sits herself down.

The music gets louder and louder.

The time is almost 2PM…

Sue   The time… the time… is almost up…

Remember me… Father time do not forget me… Nor the time that I do not wish to remember, or the time that I do…

No, do not forget me, remember everything about me…

Even those things that I do not wish to acknowledge…

Death… I am ready to acknowledge everything now… Jane, you won’t be lonely anymore

            I will be with you.

She drinks the rum and takes the medicine.

She falls to the ground.

Knocking can be heard on the door, progressively getting louder…

Caroline tries to open the door but to no prevail. Eventually she gets a knife and cuts through.

She sees Sue passed out on the floor.

Caroline         Sue! Sue! Wake up!!!! Sue! Sue! Someone call 999. Please! Somebody! Somebody help me!!!!!

The lights become dimmer and eventually all that can be seen is pitch-blackness. The music becomes louder and louder to symbolize the reunion of Sue and Jane, as if they were singing a duet.
