Rediscovering Spanish Musical Theatre: Exploring an Intercultural Adaptation of Copla
My research focuses on questions of cultural identity and the formation of Spanish Music Theatre. My enquiry consists on finding a way for re-discovering the Spanish Musical Theatre tradition, extinct since mid 20th Century and replaced in Spain by foreign (mostly American) adapted musical theatre. My practice-based method consists on exploring intercultural adaptation processes in the creation of an original piece that integrates song and text of Spanish Copla into a plot-driven narrative and its embodiment in the space with Spanish folkloric elements such as flamenco choreography.
