Keziah Joseph Wins a BBC Carleton Hobbs Bursary Award
Congratulations to final year BA (Hons) Acting Collaborative and Devised Theatre student Keziah Joseph who has won a 2016 BBC Carleton Hobbs Bursary Award!
Named after one of Radio’s most distinguished actors, the Carleton Hobbs initiative has been run by BBC Radio Drama every year since 1953 and has a long reputation for finding and encouraging actors at the start of their professional careers. Distinctive, versatile radio voices are sought to form the nucleus of new talent within the autumn season’s Radio Drama Company. Students graduating from undergraduate and postgraduate courses at accredited drama schools across the country are eligible to take part in the scheme.
Of winning this year’s Award, Keziah said:
“I’m honoured to have been recognised and chosen by the BBC to be a recipient of a 2016 Carleton Hobbs Bursary! The lead up to the competition and the day itself were incredibly enjoyable and really solidified my love and understanding of the medium which, before Central, I knew nothing about - Radio was ‘Kiss FM’ and ‘Smooth Radio’! I am looking forward to meeting and working with the other winners and the brilliant producers that I know are keen to start working with us too! Thank you BBC and thank you Central.”
Seventy-six students from a total of nineteen accredited Drama schools and colleges took part in this year’s competition, and Keziah is one of four winners who will join the BBC’s Radio Drama Company on Saturday 23rd July 2016.
