Embassy Shorts 2017: lighting, design and stage management collaborative project

The Embassy Shorts mini-festival was recently held at Central by 2nd year BA (Hons) Theatre Practice students.

The event, which takes place each autumn in the School’s Embassy Theatre, celebrates work by students from Design for the Stage, Production Lighting, Theatre Lighting Design and Stage Management. Six groups were formed, each with one or more students from each discipline; given a song to work to, the briefs involved the creation, production and performance of their work live on stage. Each group had 10 days in which to collaboratively create and design their concept, with groups performing each other’s pieces in front of a packed house on Friday 13 October 2017.

Undertaken at the very start of the autumn term, the project aims to foster collaboration between students on different pathways of BA (Hons) Theatre Practice, allowing them to explore creative skillsets in a range of different areas – as well as requiring students to step out of their comfort zone and perform on stage, further enabling them to see productions from the viewpoint of the performer.
