Central's Mark Hunter appointed to the TEF assessment panel
Congratulations to Mark Hunter, Central’s Vice-Principal (Curriculum and Students), who has been appointed to the panel for the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023.
The panel brings together an impressive breadth and depth of independent academic expertise, and experience in representing students, from all parts of the higher education sector.
Run by the Office for Students (OfS) - the regulator for higher education in England – the TEF assesses the quality of the undergraduate student experience in order to recognise teaching excellence in higher education and to better inform students’ choices about what and where to study.
As a part of his appointment, Mark will work with the panel to decide the ratings for providers based on the TEF submissions which will be submitted at the end of January 2023.
Commenting on his appointment, Mark said:
“I’m thrilled to be one of forty academics and twenty students chosen by OfS to conduct the TEF2023 assessments. This is an important moment of peer-review for English higher education, and I know that colleagues and I will work diligently to identify and celebrate the excellence we know is in our sector.”
Mark Hunter joined Central in April from Middlesex University, where he served since 2016 as Deputy Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Arts & Creative Industries. Prior to his position at Middlesex University, he held senior roles as the Head of Education at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, as well as the Director of Performing Arts and Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Community Arts Practice at the University of East London.
Mark is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has more than 20 years’ experience of working with the performing arts in Further and Higher Education, and in leading inclusive curriculum design and innovation. Mark is passionate about inclusion and has developed industry and sector partnerships and projects with Adobe, Canon, JISC and the BFI amongst others, harnessing new technologies to make the creative industries more accessible for all. Mark is currently working with the Council for At Risk Academic (CARA) building higher education governance and quality assurance capacity in north west Syria.
