Central Academics Take Part in 2015 Parliament Week Events

During the week of 16 November, members of Central’s Academic staff will take part in a series of events for Parliament Week.

Parliament Week is an annual programme of events and activities which connects people with Parliament and democracy in the UK and which is coordinated by the House of Commons with support from the House of Lords.  Throughout the week, Central will join with other Organisations from across the UK in running events to explore the meaning of parliamentary democracy.

On Wednesday 18 November Central’s Pro Dean/ Director of Learning and Student Experience, Dr Catherine McNamara, will join Sabah Choudrey and Dr Jay Stewart ‘in conversation’ for the event Democracy and Young Trans People.  This discussion will focus on the work carried out by Gendered Intelligence, a Community Interest Company whose key aim is to improve the lives of young trans people, with the conversation then opened up to questions from the audience.  Alongside her role at Central, Catherine is a Director on the Board for Gendered Intelligence, Designated Safeguarding Lead for the organisation and has led on a number of its key arts projects over the years including the recent TransActing project held in conjunction with Central and My Genderation films.

Then, on Thursday 19 November Central’s Head of Acting Geoffrey Colman will chair the Political Theatre Salon, a discussion panel of five award-winning playwrights who will together consider the role that theatre has in identifying, informing and even changing the narratives of our age.  Joining Geoff will be Vickie Donoghue, Sabrina Mahfouz, Al Smith, Vinay Patel and Roy Williams.  There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.

All events will take place in the Attlee Suite at Portcullis House and are free to attend, however due to their expected popularity advanced booking is highly recommended.  For further information and to reserve a place, please visit the Parliament Week
