Congratulations to The Theatre Times and the entire team behind this year’s International Online Theatre Festival, which has been named the second-place winner of the Culture Online International Award for “Best Online Project”.  

The International Online Theatre Festival is a yearly event streaming international theatre shows  which is organised by The Theatre Times.  Since 2019, over a million people have participated in the annual event which also includes talks and online events related to the screenings, panels, and post-show talkbacks with artists. 

The International Online Theatre Festival was presented with support from Central together with the Polish Cultural Institute in London; the Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies at the University of Toronto’s Emerson College; and the companies who generously gave permission for their work to be screened and shared. 

For 2021, the Festival was curated by co-Artistic Directors Xunnan Li and Central PhD candidates Alma Prelec and Gabriel Vivas- Martínez alongside the Festival’s Executive Director, Central’s Director of Research Professor Maria Delgado, and The Theatre Times’ Magda Romanska (Executive Director and Editor-in-Chief) and Kasia Lech (Executive Director and Director of Research and Global Initiatives).   

The 2021 Culture Online award was presented as part of the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum and was organised by the Russian Culture Foundation. A total of 452 projects were submitted for the Awards in 2021 from more than 20 countries.
