Central at the Edinburgh Festival
Central School of Speech & Drama proudly contributed to an incredible 28 performances at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival with performances from current students, staff, and alumni.
Central also hosted a social event for alumni on 22 August and a theatre practice workshop for practitioners which is free and open to all at the Melting Pot on 23 August.
Professor Gavin Henderson CBE, Principal of Central, explained, “The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is a pivotal date in the dramatic arts events calendar. This year, Central has stellar representation at Edinburgh, from its current student body to members of the extended Central family by way of our alumni. This year’s Festival looks set to be exciting, creative and challenging, with Central firmly leaving its stamp on the City.”
Central’s free workshop and panel discussion, for those interested in advancing their theatrical practice skill set, will be held on Tuesday 23 August at The Melting Pot, Edinburgh. The workshop is particularly aimed at those interested in pursuing the MA Advanced Theatre Practice which still has limited places available for Autumn 2011 entry. Mark Down, Artistic Director of Blind Summit, will join the workshop panel.
Nick Wood, Course Tutor on the MA Advanced Theatre Practice, says “the workshop, hosted by Central, will provide a valuable forum for practitioners to exchange ideas with fellow peers and artists and generate discussion with an experienced panel. It promises to be a dynamic and exciting session, and we look forward to meeting with potential students and alumni and others interested in the area of collaborative and devised theatre.”
Central is very proud of the alumni presence at Edinburgh this year, with over 25 productions from former students. Gari Jones directs Darkness by Fringe First winner Jonathan Lichtenstein; Carly Halse stars in Proper Night, a production from the OutHouse Collective, an associate company of the Roundhouse, Camden and Chris Hogben performs in Berkoff’s critically acclaimed Oedipus by Steven Berkoff (After Sophocles).
