Light After Drama Research Seminar

Light after Drama - The Semiotics and Poetics of Light in Contemporary Theatre

Speaker: Yaron Abulafia

Yaron Abulafia is both an exciting lighting designer and an accomplished academic researcher. He is in the UK to recreate his lighting for SUB for Rambert Dance Company at Sadler’s Wells in May.

For the last 10 years, he has designed lighting for theatre and dance performances, installations, concerts and television shows, mainly in Israel and Europe. Yaron is involved in many productions, both as an artist and as collaborator-lighting designer and cooperates with artistic leaders, directors, choreographers and multidisciplinary artists.

He now lives in The Netherlands and is developing his PhD dissertation at Rijks University of Groningen, The Netherlands. The research, which is both theory and practice, deals with Light in Post-dramatic Theatre and examines the potential and borders of expression in the discipline of light design within the contemporary theatrical event. He does this by creating a series of performances as an author-director and by cooperating with various artists and companies.
