Sunday in the Park with George

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Book by James Lapine
Director: Gary Sefton
Designer: Colin Mayes

Performed by MA Music Theatre students

A ravishing musical based on a fictional account of the French artist George Seurat, the creation of his impressionist masterpiece 'Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of Le Grande Jatte', and Dot, the mistress at the centre of the artist's embattled affair between art and love. Fast forward to the present day, a sculptor named George struggles with the harmony sought between art and inspiration. Since its 1984 premiere, Sondheim and Lapine's Pulitzer price-winning work has enchanted audiences' eyes and ears in that eternal quest to perceive the world anew.
