Princess Sharon
Performed by BA (Hons) Acting > Collaborative and Devised students
Princess Sharon is an award-winning adaption by Andrzej Sadowski’s from Witold Gombrowicz’s 1938 blackly humorous Princess Ivona of Burgundy. Set in a fairy-tale world Princess Sharon tells of the paranoid intrigues following the decision of an impetuous prince to marry a clumsy commoner with less than picture book beauty. Prince Philip at first enjoys his two fingered salute to the rigid precepts of his parents and the consternation it causes the court, but as the charm of the engagement wears off, Sharon wears on him. He discovers that he is not alone in wanting to get rid of her. Through a menagerie of obnoxious characters and precise choreography the play explores the notion of personal and social freedom.
