New Masters Pathway in Drama and the Criminal Justice System

This new pathway on Central’s well-established MA Applied Theatre course is for individuals wishing to develop current – or new – practice of using theatre and drama with people whose lives have been affected by the criminal justice system.

The MA Applied Theatre encourages investigation into the possibilities and contradictions of drama and theatre practice as transformative, therapeutic and rehabilitative, and engage practically and critically with a range of theories and current practices.

Concerned with advanced enquiry into prison theatre, this pathway enables you to situate your own emergent/developing practice within a wider understanding of the applied theatre field. Delivery of the course involves contributions and placement opportunities from prestigious key UK organisations such as Clean Break Theatre Company, Synergy Theatre Project, Second Shot Productions, Almeida Theatre, Cardboard Citizens, Graeae and the National Youth Theatre.

The course is exceptional in receiving funding from the Leverhulme Trust, which is available for both placements and projects that take place internationally, across the UK or in London. Central has also introduced two new scholarships valued at £1K each on the basis of exceptional merit.
