Bookings open for Spring term public productions
Central’s spring term productions commence on the February 27th with BA (Hons) Acting > Collaborative and Devised students performing Princess Sharon - Andrzej Sadowski’s adaptation of Wiltold Gombrowicz’s blackly humorous Princess Ivona.
Gregory Thompson directs the BA (Hons) Acting course in Electra Garrigó, a transplant of classic Greek tragedy into modern-day Havana. Parodying both Greek myth and Cuban 1940s society, this production premieres a new English translation of Virgilio Piñera’s comic tragedy.
The Embassy Theatre hosts multi-Tony Award-winning musical City of Angels from the 5th of March. Set in late 1940s Hollywood, the ‘real life’ world of a writer trying to turn his book into a screenplay is weaved with the fictional ‘movie world’ of a detective drama. Cy Coleman’s jazzy score combines with Larry Gelbart and David Zippel’s super witty book and lyrics. Performed by BA (Hons) Acting > Musical Theatre.
Revealing the horrifying gap between the rhetoric of war and its realities, Motortown tells the story of a soldier returning from service in Iraq. What was once home is now a stinking cesspit, presenting a new kind war for the damaged and dangerous Danny to negotiate. Laura Wade’s dark and complex play, Breathing Corpses, runs from the 13th of March.
Napoli Milionaria, a rich ragu of farce and social satire seasoned with tragic consequences set in 1940s Naples, is presented by students from the MA Acting (Contemporary) course while the MA Acting (Classical) students perform All’s Well That Ends Well.
