Booking open for Summer Term Public Productions

Central’s summer term productions commence on 1 May with MA Music Theatre students performing Sunday in the Park with George. A ravishing musical based on a fictional account of the French artist George Seurat, the creation of his impressionist masterpiece Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of Le Grande Jatte, and his mistress Dot.

Max Key directs the BA (Hons) Acting students in Owen McCaffertys, Scenes From the Big Picture. The play takes place over the course of a hot summer’s day in an imagined area of present-day Belfast. In a tour de force of dramatic writing, a whole world is evoked in a couple of hours.

Opening on 13 June, the Webber Douglas Studio hosts Sleeping Beauty – Wake up Little Snoozy. Writers Sarah Ann Nixon and Mark Chatterton, renowned for their Rock ‘N’ Roll pantomimes at Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, sprinkle their magic on Swiss Cottage;  unique, fun and rollicking. Performed by BA (Hons) Acting > Musical Theatre students.

BA (Hons) Acting Collaborative & Devised Theatre students perform Banished which runs from the 20 June in the Embassy Theatre. A contemporary re-working of The White Devil is adapted by Tony Award nominated director Wilson Milam. This production is a collision of twenty first century corruption and dirty glamour with the extraordinarily rich language of John Webster.

MA Acting > Contemporary students perform Marcella Evaristis Purgatoria which tells of a little group of penitents who have escaped from Dante’s Purgatoria and landed in the 21st century where sin has had a disorienting overhaul. Running from 31 July until 3 August.

Chekhov’s masterpiece Three Sisters, directed by Ben Naylor is performed with his infrequently produced theatrical vaudeville, Swan Song by MA Acting > Classical students in the Embassy Theatre from 1 August.
