BATP Lighting for Music Project 2012

PRG (Europe) once again recently supported lighting design and technical & production management students at Central, with the two-week loan of a substantial concert rig .

In what has become a regular project for students in their first year at Central, David Amos (LD and Production Manager with his own company Flare Lighting) and Chris “Squib” Swain (LD for The Streets and Bombay Bicycle Club among others) led a two week project in Lighting for Music.

The students worked with tutors to plan and rig PRG’s kit, which included some of the latest LED moving head fixtures. They then worked with David and Squib, in small groups, to design light shows responding to their own choice of music. Along the way they had several chances to show their work to David, Squib, their peers and tutors in order to receive feedback.

Martin Locket, MD of PRG (Europe) says a little about why PRG supports the students at Central:

"Central have a good mechanism for including and involving industry partners and professionals to work with the students, from the very early stages of their courses.  This undoubtedly contributes to a very grounded and realistic outlook from the students who graduate from these courses, without a whiff of arrogance or unrealistic expectations about them.  We are pleased to count many Central alumni amongst our staff, clients and associate industry contacts and consider the quality of the course content, approach and teaching as a major contributory factor to the high achievement of the graduates within the production industry."

Video clips of the final showings of some of the students' work can be seen on YouTube
