Private Rented Accommodation

Private Rented Accommodation

The majority of students studying at Central choose to live in Private Rented Accommodation

The majority of students studying at Central choose to live in Private Rented Accommodation. This can be a cost effective way of being closer to Central and help to manage the long days spent on campus, especially during production weeks.

The University of London’s Housing Services can offer advice about your property search, help you with contract checking and you can look up properties on their Private Housing Property Platform. You can find out more about their full range of services on their What We Do webpage.

You can find lots of useful information and everything you need to know about finding, securing and overcoming problems in private housing by reading through the University of London’s Housing Services’ Private Housing Guide and Contract Checking Guide

The University of London’s Housing Services’ annual Housing Fair event will take place on Friday 10th May 2024 from 11am - 3pm at Senate House, Bloomsbury, London. For more information about the Fair please visit the UoL Housing Services Events webpage.

If a student is searching for a whole property (either as part of a group, couple or to live alone) we would suggest using property search engines like Rightmove or Zoopla. If you are looking to join an existing tenancy, students may find using sites like SpareRoom helpful. However you chose to go about your property search, remember that the SAS are here to support you and you can reach out to us at SAS@cssd.ac.uk for further advice.

Where do our students live?

Whilst students studying at Central live in all parts of London and further afield, the following areas are popular because of their proximity to Swiss Cottage:

  • West Hampstead
  • Kilburn
  • Willesden Green
  • Dollis Hill
  • Golders Green

Shared Accommodation

Our Shared Accommodation Day event is organised each year to help students plan their accommodation search, meet potential housemates and find out about properties currently available.

In 2024, we intend to offer an in-person event on campus and an online virtual version of the event on the same day. These events will take place on:

  • Friday 5th July 2024 at 11am (UK Time) for the in-person event on Campus.
  • Friday 5th July 2024 at 3:30pm (UK Time) for the online event on Zoom.

The in-person event on campus will include a helpful talk about your finding private rented accommodation in London, participate in icebreaker games, get the chance to meet fellow students who are starting their accommodation search and speak to local letting agents, colleagues from the University of London’s Housing Services and Central’s own Student Advice Service in-person.

The online version of event was reformatted for the pandemic and will also include informative talks, icebreaker activities/conversations on Zoom and create a digital space for students to introduce themselves and meet each other in order to start an accommodation search. Lists  of available properties will be sent to students via our Facebook group.

Shared Accommodation Days provide new students with the opportunity to meet and ‘buddy up’ to look for accommodation. Members of the Student Advice Service Team and Central’s Students’ Union team will be present providing advice and guidance on renting. If you would like to attend either the in-person event on campus or our online event, please contact sas@cssd.ac.uk. If you have reached out to us already, we will update you with plans for the event.

For help, advice and the latest news on accommodation, please join our Facebook group. Students can use the Facebook group as a forum to make contact with future housemates, advertise rooms and seek advice from current students. If you cannot access this page, please contact the Student Advice Service.

Students can also access the University of London’s Housing Services’ Flatmate Finder Facebook Group to connect up with other University of London students looking for accommodation.
