present a one-day conference
1:45pm – 9:15pm
This one-day conference aims to open up debate and exploration of the notion of the other in psychology, performance studies, writing and other disciplines. As the notion of what is ‘me’ and what is ‘not me’ pervades our perceptions of Self and other, the day will explore this primary theme through workshops, a keynote, a performance and a round table.
Participants attending for the full day will have the chance to participate in two of five workshops on:
- Shapeshifting: encountering the Other with Mary Smail and Becky Mackeonis
- Voicing the ‘Other’ with Eran Nathan
- The Others Between – ‘Ambiguity is uncertainty and uncertainty is hope’ with Naomi Durston and Melanie Beer
- Approaching the Other ‘out there’ by animating the Other ‘in here’ with Aleka Loutsis
- ‘A person needs a you to become an I’ - Martin Buber with Mitch Mitchelson
Followed by:
- a light supper
- a keynote address by Mark Saban
- a performance of The Three Linden Trees by Hermann Hesse
- a roundtable discussion
- a drinks reception.
