Interview Process - BA Contemporary Performance Practice

Interview Process - BA Contemporary Performance Practice

If you are selected for an interview for a place on the Drama, Applied Theatre and Education, Experimental Arts and Performance or Writing for Performance courses, we will email you an invitation to attend an interview on site. We are also able to offer online interviews to overseas candidates and those who may find travel to London difficult.

The interview will consist of:

  • A welcome and short presentation on The Department of Practice at Royal Central
  • A short creative workshop. This is not an audition; it is intended to allow for creative play at the start of the day, and a chance to get to know tutors working on the programmes as well as other applicants. You do not need to prepare anything for this workshop.
  • An interview – which may be in a group or as an individual. You will be sent the interview questions in advance of the interview;
  • Time to speak to our current students who will be able to answer questions about life at Central and their experiences of the degree programme.

We ask you to note the following course-specific requirements. You only need to prepare whichever is listed against the course you have applied for:

Drama, Applied Theatre and Education (W490)

You do not need to prepare anything in advance for this course

Writing for Performance (W470)

Please share an example of your creative writing – if possible some dramatic or performance writing. This can be of any length, though we will only look at a short portion of anything that is longer than a couple of pages. Please either share this in advance or bring your creative writing with you to your interview.

Experimental Arts and Performance (W440)

We would like to invite you to bring with you one example of your creative work. This can be a piece of music you composed, a script or poem or creative text you wrote, photography or video work, drawings or sketches, an artist book, script from a performance - anything that has been a space for you to play and dream in!

This does not necessarily have to be for school or for a public, it can just be something you did in your own time. You’re also welcome to showcase more than one piece or share something short.

You do not need to send us your work in advance, but please bring it with you for your interview. This can be digital or physical.

Additional information for all applicants:

We make every attempt to conduct your interview sensitively and thoroughly, and endeavour to give you every chance to support your application. Consequently, you do not have to worry if you have not formally studied your preferred specialist area before now. However, students will get more from the course if they can demonstrate an existing engagement (practically or intellectually) with their chosen subject area.

All applicants will be advised of the result of their interview via UCAS at a later date, which may be several weeks after the interview.
