On Monday 30th January 2017, Sir Tony Robinson led the festivities for a special ground-breaking ceremony at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.  The event marked the official start of construction on the School’s new North Block Development.

On 27 December, 2016 Central was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our beloved alumna, Honorary Fellow and Vice President Carrie Fisher.  The following day, on 28 December, 2016, the School was again saddened by news of the passing of Debbie Reynolds.

On Monday 12 December, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama hosted its annual Graduation Ceremony at The Royal Festival Hall.  Alongside a class of exceptional new graduates, Central awarded Honorary Fellowship to three extraordinary members of the industry: Martin Freeman, Gareth Fry and Kully Thiarai.  In addition, the school also awarded an Honorary Doctorate to Lee Hall.

Congratulation to alumnus Joe Alwyn, star of Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, which opens today in cinemas across the United States.  The film will open in the United Kingdom on 6 January, 2017.

Parents in Performing Arts (PIPA), a Consortium of 18 leading Industry organisations, have announced their first major piece of work, a Best Practice Action Research Project to be undertaken with Central’s Dr Tom Cornford as the project’s Research Lead.
