On Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 October as a part of Black History Month, Central hosted a special screening of the independent documentary film The Space: Theatre of Survival. Organised by Claudette Williams, Central’s Senior Lecturer in Voice, the screening was followed by a Q&A with directors Dan Poole and Mark Street, and founder of The Space Brian Astbury.
In November, Central is taking part in the 2019 Being Human Festival. Being Human is the UK’s only national festival and celebration of the humanities, led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London in partnership with the Arts & Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. The programme of free events and activities for all ages runs from 14 – 23 November, 2019.
On 16 and 17 November, Pamela Howard’s new production The Ballad of the Cosmo Café brings to life the memories of patrons at the Finchley Road’s beloved restaurant, which welcomed a community of European artists and intellectuals through its doors and served as a home from home, providing a place for émigrées and refugees to embrace their new lives in a new land whilst immersing themselves in the smells, tastes and sounds of their old ones.
Congratulations to Dr Nicola Abraham and a team from the NHS’s Imperial Hospital Trust who, together with a cohort of Central students and alumni, have been recognised with the Outstanding Arts and Creativity in Dementia Care award at the 2019 National Dementia Care Awards. The award was in recognition of the team’s intergenerational project work with the NHS and 4 schools in London.
On Wednesday 6 November, Central students performed for The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall at a very special event commemorating the 20thAnniversary of the London Farmers’ Market.

The shortlist for the 65th London Evening Standard Theatre Awards, celebrating outstanding achievements from the London stage over the last twelve months, has been unveiled and we're delighted to celebrate news that alumna Cecilia Noble has been nominated for the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress!
At the start of our new academic year, we are excited to announce the opening of the new Central Student Centre – a one-stop hub for Student Services at Central which offers the convenience of meeting all student support needs in one place.
In October, Central welcomed members of the industry to the School for its 2019 Hosts Afternoon. The annual event provides an opportunity for current students who are about to embark on their industry placements to meet with their hosts and to get tips and advice from staff, alumni and leaders in the field on making the most of their time in residence with leading arts organisations and schools.
From 2-3 October, Central hosted Collisions 2019, an annual festival of practice research in performance.
Congratulations to Central’s Dr Nicola Abraham and a team from the NHS's Imperial Hospital Trust who, together with a cohort of Central students and alumni, have been shortlisted for two awards for their intergenerational process drama projects. The projects included several years of 2nd year BA DATE collaborative outreach projects in support of patients living with and receiving care for dementia, a VR MA Applied Theatre project with patients who have experienced a stroke, a MA Applied Theatre film project for acute dialysis patients and her intergenerational project work with the NHS and 4 schools in London.
On Thursday 26 September, Central was pleased to host Stage Sight’s September Members’ Forum, and to welcome industry representatives to the School to share ideas and best practice around fostering a more inclusive, representative sector.
